Brush Health

So, you have bought  a fabulous brush for your mineral makeup, have you? My goodness, it wasn't cheap either! I suggest you take good care of your brush, in fact all your makeup brushes, as they are your tools to help your makeup nestle onto your skin just so.

And it really is as simple as cleaning them on a regular basis. This is a small investment to make in your brush health, and yours as well. In talking with women about their makeup tools, I am not suprised any more to hear woman say something to the extent of  "Oh, I don't think I have ever cleaned my makeup brushes!". Simply add some warm water to your sink or a bowl, swish some natural soap in and add a few drops of Tea Tree Oil. Swish your brush in sink/bowl until you can squeeze it and no more clouds of imbedded makeup comes out. The soap will help to clean out the left over mineral particles and suspend them in the water, away from the brush and the Tea Tree Oil will disinfect your brush. Give the brush a rinse under cool water, then lay it down on a clean dry towel to  dry. Do not sit your brush up right, or the water will pool in the handle and could loosen the bristles. Tea Tree Oil, also known as Melaleuca, has been used for centuries to heal cuts, wounds and skin infections. It has twelve times the antiseptic power of phenol, so it packs some strong immune building properties. It is anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-infectious, anti-parasitic, anti-virial, an immune-stimulant, and insecticidal. It promotes cleansing and purity. (Reference Guide for Essential Oils, Higley) For a high quality Tea Tee Oil I recommend Young Living Brand. Don't waste your money on brands that sell fluff. Contact me for more information. Can you see how it will help keep your brushes clean, not to mention the health of your skin? Not a bad idea to use it to clean your toothbrush as well! (I do) Lisa Style-Essentials.org

I’m always happy to see something from Style Essentials in my inbox! Love your friendly, chatty bits of truly useful information. I just adore the Kabuki brush from S.E., and I want to take good care of it. Can you recommend a good, pure soap for us to use? Thanks, Lisa, for helping us stay healthy and beautiful!

I know “tree oil” as Melaleuka. That is great stuff. We keep it around for everything from cuts to disinfectant I never thought of washing my brushes with it. What a good idea! Thanks Lisa
