Skin Care You Can Eat

Are you looking for organic, honest, and affordable skin care? Skin care so pure, you can eat it? I have some fun ideas for you here. It really is super easy to take care of your skin with out spending a fortune. For example, one of my favorite beauty aids is almonds.

Almond meal makes a great facial and body scrub, and in the process, you can make a batch of almond milk for a health treat you may just get addicted to!

I make a batch of fresh almond milk weekly and the by product is almond meal. I used to compost the meal, but I have since found that there are a number of additional things you can do with it, one of which is to polish your skin.

Almonds for Beauty & Health

Are you ready for a DIY (do it yourself, for those new to the concept) recipe? Here ya go:

Mix about one tablespoon of almond meal with a bit of honey, or olive oil, both of which are healthy for your skin. Make a paste in the palm of your hand, or in a bowl. Don’t worry about exact amounts, just use what feels right. Experiment, have fun! First wash your face with a gentle cleanser. While your face is still wet,  massage your almond meal paste gently into your skin. I recommend hooking your thumbs under your chin while you massage so as not to use to much pressure and pull on your skin unnecessarily. Massage for about thirty seconds, and now rinse with warm water. You may need a soft washcloth to remove any residue. Rinse until clean. Moisturize. To customize even further, you may want to add a drop of essential oil, such as lavender or chamomile, to your facial scrub as well.

How-to make your own Almond Milk
2 cups almonds
4 cups water

1 teaspoon vanilla or 1 vanilla bean and a dash of sea salt

  1. Soak almonds and vanilla bean overnight
  2. Discard soaking water and rinse almonds in a deep bowl of water, repeat until water is clear
  3. Place soaked almonds, vanilla bean and 4 cups of water in a Vita Mix (or other high speed blender)
  4. Blend on highest speed for 90 seconds
  5. Strain milk through cheesecloth or a fine mesh straining bag discarding solids
  6. Serve

Serves 6

Not only will your skin feel smoother, but you have made an eco- friendly choice that is easy to fit into your lifestyle.

What a fabulous post! I love drinking almond milk ( I usually buy Almond Breeze or Sylk’s new one) but I have always wanted to make my own! Maybe you have given me the push to actually do it! I also love using almonds for skin care. For years, I have loved to use almond oil as a skin moisturizer, but I never thought to use the almond meal as a face scrub. I love your recipe! I will definitely give it a try very soon!

    Robin,
Ain’t it great! You can eat them, use them for facials, to remove eye & face makeup, as a moisturizer and more. I would love to know how you like the almond milk. We used it this morning for my sons hot cereal instead of water. Much more nutritious, and better tasting too!

Great Post. Thanks for the information. Would love it if you would share some more recipes of using the almond meal. Gues, they can be used in a porridge or something for intake too as they are rich in fibre and healthy for body.
Btw, wanted to inquire if you do send the samples out of US and Canada.

I will share some more almond meal recipes, don’t go too far ;-) One quick one, add it to your oatmeal along with raisons, especially for those folks who dont like thier nuts too chunky.
And sadly, at this point, I don’t send samples outside of the U.S. Thanks for asking though!

You really make almond milk every week? Wow. Love the idea to use the grounds in this way. I still think I would rather eat them though, I love, love, love almonds!
